STUDY ON THE NOISE LEVELS GENERATED DURING MILLING OF WOOD FROM PINUS SILVESTRIS L.

Summary

Wood machining through milling is one of the wide-used cutting processes in woodworking and furniture industry. It is also one of the noisiest, due to the high noise immission levels that often exceed the accepted sanitary standards.

In this work the influence of the feed rate, the speed of the working shaft (or cutting speed) and the thickness of the out cut layer on the noise levels, measured at work place, generated during Pinus silvestris L. milling process has been evaluated.

METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATION OF SOUND POWER LEVELS IN WOODWORKING MILLING MACHINES

Summary

Woodworking machines belong to the noisiest working machinery that requires study and analysis of noise characteristics in order to reduce the levels of noise emissions.

Noise generation is a complex process that depends on the design features and technical characteristics of the machine and its cutting tools, on one hand and the cutting process and the type of material to cut, on the other.

Generated noise can be categorized as idling noise and cutting noise, depending on the working process and each one of them has to be assessed and analyzed independently. 

The objective of the current study is to present a methodology for evaluation of sound power levels, generated by woodworking milling machines, assessed by measuring the sound pressure levels.

CONDITIONS FOR OCCURRENCE OF VIBRATIONS IN WOOD MILLING MACHINES

Summary

The work of each machine is inevitably accompanied by the occurrence of vibrations which have adverse effects in many directions. Vibrations are among the main factors influencing woodworking machines’ effectiveness, cutting tools durability and the quality of the processed surface.

In this review the main terms characterizing the oscillations are presented. The principal conditions for vibrations generation based on cutting system of the machine, cutting tools, cutting regime and the processed material, are also covered.
