QUALITY OF INDOOR AIR IN SMALL CZECH FURNITURE COMPANIES

This paper investigates the problematic of emission volatile organic compounds emitted to working, indoor air of the wooden furniture company. The main goal of this research were assessment of quality of indoor air in working environment, which was load of emission VOC emitted from production processes of made furniture. The one part of this research deals of the influence individual technological operations in wooden made furniture in dependence on quality and quantity composition of VOC, which they effects of quality external and internal environment of the furniture company. We analyzed emissions of VOC emitted during the furniture production by the gas chromatograph in conjunction with mass spectrometer and Direct Thermal Desorption. The result of analysis is qualitative and quantitative data in form graph and numerical expression.

THE MASSIVE WOOD LIKE EMITTER OF VOC EMISSIONS AND ODOURS

The contribution is interested in problems of volatile organic compounds emitted by wood shavings of different kinds of wood: pine (Pinus sylvestris) sapwood, (Pinus sylvestris) heartwood, English oak (Quercus robur), western red cedar (Thuja plicata) in the comparing of them. In the same time the olfactometric influence of individual components emitted by western red cedar and sapwood of pine was under review. In the work there is also described the relation among the results reported during the olfactometric measuring and the results reported during the measuring of volatile organic compounds especially emitted by cedar wood. The dependence of Limonene and α Pinene olfactory activity on the concentration of organic compounds emitted by tested samples of wood with strong olfactory activity. The properties of odours of the above are judged by equipment Sniffer 9000.

The amount of emission of VOC emitted by choice kind of woods is monitored in dependence on time (72, 336 and 672 hours after planning wood shavings).

The results are compared with sensory perceptions and the qualitative and quantitative analysis of VOCs performed by the help the gas chromatograph (Agilent 6890) with mass selective detector (MS 5973 Network) and short part thermal desorption (model TD-4).

In the contribution there is described and introduced the new virtual educational programme under the address WWW e-furniture.info, where we can find the explanatory dictionary with the definitions of furniture terms and virtual multifunctional house with special rooms equipped by special pieces of furniture in connection database of national and European standards in Bulgarian language, English language, Slovak language, German language and Slovak language.

STUDY OF VOC EMISSIONS AND ODOURS FROM FOAM MATERIALS IN FURNITURE PRODUCTION

The issue of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odours or smells emitted from materials is researched in terms of our environment and human health. The Department of Furniture at Mendel University in Brno has been dealing with this subject for a long time. Main direction of this research is defined by composition of quantitative and qualitative emissions of VOCs which are emitted into the air from chosen materials used in the manufacturing of upholstered furniture such as polyurethane foams and latex rubber. Emission measurement is determined in space chamber with pre-defined conditions. This methodology is described in the standard ČSN EN ISO 16 000-9. The samples of air from the climate chamber, where the test sample is placed, are then analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) on a gas chromatograph with mass spectrometer and thermal desorption. Another part of this research is olfactometric assessment of odours emitted from tested materials, by the indirect olfactometry method. The relevance of the individual components on emissions of odour intensity and hedonic effect will be determined according to the chemical analyses of the achieved results.

This study investigates the problem of VOC emissions and odours emitted from polyurethane foam, viscoelastic foam and latex at the temperature of 23 °C and a relative humidity of 50 %. The time aspect in connection with the amount of volatile organic compounds released to the air are examined in this document. Particularly it was pointed on the identification of substances which release from these foams. These substances express the characteristics of the foam materials from the point of the release of volatile organic compounds and odours.

THE EMISSIONS EMITTED BY SPRUCE THERMOWOOD WITH AND WITHOUT SURFACE FINISHED

This paper investigates the problematic of VOC emissions emitted by the massive spruce wood and by heat treated wood at temperatures 180 °C and 200 °. In this contribution is investigated the influence on the temperature of the spruce wood heat treatment on the quality and quantity content of volatile organic compounds, especially on the amount of emitted Phenol and Furfural. This contribution researches the correlation between the times after the modification of heat-treated wood and amount and contents of VOC emitted by this heat treated spruce wood. This study contains the results of the influence of finished Spruce heat-treated wood by the water born lacquer on emissions of VOC.
